Spirit of Life and Church of the Cross are collaborating on an education offering. Liberating Lutherans: Theology & Organizing for the Church Today. September 17 to November 5, 8 Thursdays for 60 minutes per class over Zoom. This is a reading and discussion group that will offer a brief survey of liberation theology in the context of application for ministry today.

The idea grew out of the small group discussion around Broad Based Organizing at the One Body Gathering in Coquitlam in June. This online theology course is free and open to anyone who wants to join. It is not a synod offering, but a conversation two congregations are opening to others.

There will be a syllabus ready by early September, but you can expect excerpts and articles from authors like James Cone, Wil Gafney, and Gustavo Guitérrez. As well as applications of organizing and theology principles participants will be invited to make in their own ministry context. Rather than following one book we will be making readings available online that everyone can access. Expect around 20 pages of reading per week. This is not an academic course, it is about making theology accessible to everyone.

For more info contact either of the church offices, who will forward your email to the leaders: Audrey Guay, Pr. Aneeta Saroop, and Pr. Lyndon Sayers
