Covid-19 Update
Following the upcoming long weekend, the Provincial Government will implement phase two in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, with careful and partial reopening of some services and facilities in the province. Phase two makes no specific recommendations or changes for faith communities. While the Premier and the Public Health Officer have responded to questions about worship, the requirements have not changed from phase one: gatherings of not more than 49 people, maintain physical distance, masks if in closer proximity, and specific concerns about singing together. As Pastors and Council Executive, we have been in consultation with the Synod and intend to consult with medical professionals in our own congregation about possible next steps. We remain cautious and will move slowly, not wanting to risk infection for anyone or an outbreak in this or neighbouring communities, especially for many who are more vulnerable in our congregation, Luther Court and elsewhere. We will continue to communicate and seek congregational input in future decisions. If you have comments or concerns, please contact us as Pastors and congregational leadership.
We will continue with livestream-only worship and weekly prayers and offer more programing, meetings and other opportunities to connect online, and stay in contact through regular phone calls to everyone in the congregation. If anyone is in need of additional support, please contact us as Pastors, or congregational leaders.
And again, thank you! to everyone who has been able and made the effort to continue financial support of the congregation during the pandemic. It is greatly appreciated. The Council is carefully monitoring the financial position of the congregation and will keep the community informed.
In grace and peace,
Your Pastors and Council

COVID-19 Urgent Food Support Fund for the Shelbourne Community Kitchen
We know that having reliable access to fresh healthy food and people you can call for support can make a world of difference...especially right now. In the past three weeks alone, the Kitchen Pantry program received and filled over 250 requests for food support and they are registering new members every day. And while the team is now a fraction of its original size, they dedicate time every week to call the members who they know are especially vulnerable right now and don't have computers at home to check in. They offer service updates and tell them "Yes! We are still open and here to help in any way we can."
The Shelbourne Community Kitchen might be a small organization, but it has a great big heart. If you are able to do so - please make a donation to the Urgent Food Support Fund today so that the Kitchen can meet the increasing demand. Please see letter below for more information regarding the Kitchen's Urgent Food Support Fund.
Your donation can be made online or be mailed to Shelbourne Community Kitchen at
3541 Shelbourne Street, Victoria V8P 4G6.

The next online Dessert and Dialogue on Holy Communion will take place on May 26, 7- 8:30 PM. A Zoom invitation will be sent by email prior to that date.

Truth & Reconciliation Committee Letter
Below is a link to a copy of one of the letters members of the Truth & Reconciliation Committee (TRC) of Lutheran Church of the Cross wrote and mailed to Prime Minister Trudeau, Premier Horgan, Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Tam, and Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry. The letter comes in response to ongoing concerns With Wet'suwet'en crisis in Northern BC which continues during this time of COVID-19. As church and community allies, members of TRC feel compelled to speak out as an expression of love of neighbour and Christian witness. If you have questions feel free to get in touch with the letter signatories, including Craig Knight, TRC chair, Pr. Lyndon, and Pr. Lyle.
