Reformation Anniversary Commemoration
Thank you to everyone for joining in this Sunday’s Reformation Commemoration worship. 2019 is the 20th Anniversary of the “Joint Declaration on the Doctrine of Justification.” As dry as that sounds, it is a significant expression of unity between Roman Catholic and Protestant traditions that we are all redeemed by God’s grace through faith in Christ Jesus to live faithfully in love and justice and peace for all and all creation. Thanks be to God.
Welcome! Welcome to Craig Knight, Richard Bickel, Ashley & Olivia Moore, Denise Pawliuk, and Isabel Hunt who joined the congregation last Sunday through Affirmation of Baptism. It is a joy to receive you as members of this community and share in faith and ministry together. The congregation receives people through Affirmation of Baptism two or three times a year. If you are interested in participating in the future, please contact Pastor Lyle, Pastor Lyndon or the Church office. All are welcome!

Join us for a monthly
discussion series on finding hope and creating justice in a chaotic, anxious time for the world. This month we will discuss structural racism, what we can do to dismantle entrenched systems that maintain inequality and how we can work toward a just future for everyone.

This month’s speakers will be:
•Aneeta Saroop, Priest at St. Mary’s Anglican in Metchosin
•Shana Lynngood, Minister at the First Unitarian Church of Victoria and UVic Multifaith Unitarian Chaplain

Each month we will explore a different topic through the lens of our individual experiences and collective wisdom from a variety of traditions. Potential future topics include: climate change, violence, mental health, food security, economic inequality and more. For more info:

You are Invited
Bring a friend and drop by Lutheran Church of the
Cross on Sat. Nov. 2nd  anytime between 10 am and 2 pm. Come in and browse the fun collection of jewelry, scarves, ties, purses and more. There is also some clothing, hats, a few shoes, and some quirky things for you, or as a Christmas gift for someone.
Once you’ve found your “must have” items, you are invited to grab a cup of tea, coffee, or juice and sit munching a homemade cookie or two. Refreshments will be by donation to support the Social Justice Committee’s continued efforts in sponsoring refuges.
In 2019 the number of those seeking shelter from natural or human-made disasters continues to overwhelm host countries’ resources. For example, there are 6 million displaced persons in war ravaged Syria, with 3.66 million registered Syrians refugees being hosted by Turkey. And in the Sudan (2016 UN stats), 273,261 South Sudanese refugees remain in camps.
As the Social Justice Committee nears the end of its financial commitment to the Nora family, we can consider future requests. Currently Timhert and Haile await completion of their official paper work before starting their new lives in Victoria. After that?
Our Committee would  like to  thank you for on-going support and interest in our joint work toward social justice in God’s world.
Susan Beiderwieden,
Social Justice Committee
