At the crossroads...
we hear images of the end that are a stark contrast between glorious hope and terrifying destruction. Which do we believe? What are the signs in our time? Does Jesus offer reality and hope for us and our testifying? Welcome God's hope. Welcome all!

Stewardship Pledge Week 3  -
Devoted to Generousity

You always have the poor with you,
but you do not always have me.  John 12:8

We praise God for the
generous and faithful financial support contributed by people of the congregation.
Currently 120 members of the congregation make continuing contributions to the church through a variety of methods:
  • 63 through weekly envelops
  • 23 through monthly envelops
  • 34 through monthly direct deposit via EFT Canada
In the past few months we have transitioned from our long time direct deposit agency Faithlife Financial to EFT Canada. Faithlife provided us great service, however they made a business decision to stop offering this service. After careful research and a recommendation from Faithlife, Electronic Funds Transfer Canada (EFT Canada) was selected to provide us with similar service at a slightly higher monthly fee. They are also providing clients with more flexibility in timing of monthly withdrawals. If YOU have any interest in switching to direct deposit please let me know.

Every year we have a few members of the congregation who donate stock shares/certificates to the church. Although we cannot process these gifts ourselves, The Victoria Foundation will receive these gifts, identified for Church of the Cross, carry out the process of converting the shares/certificates into cash and then forward your offering to the church while providing you with a tax receipt.  They can be contacted at:
victoriafoundation.bc.ca  250-381-5532

If anyone has any questions or wants to make any changes to how they are presently supporting the church please let me know. Barry Walker, 250-381-1698, cell 250-818-7931. Leave me a note in my mailbox at church #92 or pass a message through Deb in the church office.

Thank You for generous support of the church.
Barry Walker, Financial Secretary
Weekly Bible Discussion – Mondays, 7:00 – 8:30 PM
The
discussion focuses on the upcoming Sunday’s Bible readings and the connections and meaning for our time. No prior knowledge of the Bible is necessary. All voices and perspectives are welcome. If you have any questions, please contact Pastor Lyle or the Church office. The next study is on November 18th.
Trans Awareness Week - November 13 - 20, 2019
What are the ways we can make space for trans folks in church? How do we witness to Jesus’ love?

Victoria Multi-faith Society AGM 2019: from 2 to 4 pm on Sunday Nov. 17
Our keynote speaker, John Borrows, who holds the VMS Indigenous seat, is a world-renowned authority in Indigenous legal rights. John’s
keynote last February was very well received and it is exciting to again have such a knowledgeable speaker on a subject we know will be of interest to many.

The theme is "Spirituality, Justice and Indigenous Peoples". There will be discussion and refreshments following the talk. A brief rundown of the year’s activities and discussion of future activities will take place during the 2nd half of the meeting from 3:15 to 4:00 pm.

The meeting will be held at UVic’s Interfaith Chapel. The nearest parking (which is free on Sundays) is in Lot 6, near the entrance to Finnerty Gardens. Please arrive at 1:45 pm. Membership in VMS is $10 for those who wish to support multifaith activities. The AGM is open to all and free of charge.
Angel Gifts

Lutheran Church of the Cross is once again invited to participate in the Angel Gifts
program.  Angel Gifts are Christmas presents, specially selected for a member of the Our Place community in Victoria.

Begin by selecting a name from the poster on the bulletin board in the hallway.  The tear away tab will tell you the gender, age and clothing size of the recipient.  Suggested gift ideas include warm outer wear, socks, gloves, gift cards and chocolate bars, and should equal approximately $40.00.  See the bulletin board for addition information regarding the wrapping and tagging.
Contact Sherry Coughlin or any member of the Social Justice Committee or the church office if you have any further questions.

The Angel Gifts will be collected and blessed on Sunday, December 8.

Thanks for putting a smile on someone’s face this Christmas!
