Day of Pentecost is also Confirmation Sunday, May 28, 2023
We look forward to welcoming students to be confirmed on Day of Pentecost, May 28, 2023, 10 AM PT. Confirmation is an opportunity for the faith community at Church of the Cross to affirm it’s support for these students. It’s all less of an end point than a time to celebrate, and for them to continue their faith journey and participation in church community.

Annual Spring Cleanup - Saturday, May 6 from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM
The Board of Trustees are hosting the annual Spring Clean Up at Lutheran Church of the Cross. A sign up sheet with a list of tasks available here. And a paper copy has been posted on the board in the hallway on the way to the Upper Hall. We plan to get together on Saturday, May 6, 9:00 am until 12 noon. If that doesn’t work for you, then you are invited to come during previous the week and work on a project of your choice - if you complete it or not write down what’s been done. We thank you for your efforts.
We would like to complete the most visible aspects before Mothers Day on May 14. You can contact Nicky at the Church Office to schedule your favourite task, whether on May 6 or anytime the building is open. The church office is open Monday through Thursday 9 AM to 3 PM or by appointment if you need access outside these hours.
There are a wide range of interior and exterior tasks to suit your ability. Trustees greatly appreciate your participation and hope to be on site encouraging all participate.

Coffee Fellowship for Summer months - Bakers or Coordinators needed!
Coffee Fellowship will be pared back to a simpler Cafe Style service during July and August. Following Sunday services, coffee, tea and water with simple baked goods will be available.
If you've been thinking about assisting during Coffee Fellowship, helping to serve is much easier in July and August during this smaller Cafe Style Fellowship. There is always someone on around to help make coffee or answer questions.
Help is needed in two areas during July and August: 1) Bakers & 2) Cafe Style Coordinators.
Love to Bake? Bake cookies and bring them to the church for placement in the church freezer and make it easier for Cafe Style Coffee coordinators during the summer months.
Look for the Summer Cafe Style Coffee Fellowship sign-up sheet posted on the board in the hallway on the way to the Upper Hall.
Thank you from the Board of Care for Communities!

Advance Care Planning Workshop
May 11 & 18, 10 AM, Church of the Cross
Led by Marta Lefsrud
We plan for birthdays, weddings, and even dinner - so why don't we plan our health care?
What health care decisions are made when you are no longer capable of making them yourself? Who acts as your Representative or Substitute Decision Maker? What are your values, wishes and beliefs?
These are all questions that get addressed during your advance care planning process. Although Advance Care Planning is often thought of as planning for the end of life, it is really about planning for life, up to and including death.
It is a process of thinking about what is important to you. What are your beliefs, values and wishes for your care?
Advance care planning is also about sharing those wishes, especially with your substitute decision-maker (the person who will speak for you if you can’t speak for yourself) so that your family and friends know how you would like to be cared for in the future.
But lots of resources have too much medical, and legal jargon it's hard to know where to start. This two-part workshop helps you tackle planning with confidence. You will finish having the tools and skills to start the conversation with your friends, loved ones, and health care providers.
Each session is approximately an hour and a half, and will help participants get started working on their own plans, and having conversations with their loved ones”
This workshop is being hosted by the Board of Education and will be led by Marta Lefsrud, Community Education and Projects Lead with Victoria Hospice.
If you want to attend this workshop, there is a sign-up sheet outside the church office, or you may contact the church office by email or phone to sign-up. Office: 250-477-6222

Anti-Bullying Day is May 4
Anti-Bullying Day is a day communities pledge to put an end to bullying in schools. Children are at a higher risk to bullying since bullies target on the most vulnerable. Every child has the right to grow up without experiencing abuse especially in schools, which should be a safe environment for learning and nurturing. Everyone is encouraged to observe this day by raising awareness about bullying. For more information and tips on how to observe Anti-Bullying Day, please click here.

Red Dress Day is on May 5
Red Dress also known as the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls and Two-Spirit People, is observed on May 5th. Red Dress Day was inspired by Metis artist Jaime Black's REDress Project installation, in which she hung empty, red dresses to represent the missing and murdered women. Red dresses have become symbolic of the crisis as a result of her installation. For more information, please click here.

Covid-19 and Worship
- We offer worship in both live (in-person) and livestream (online) formats.
