Prayers for Jerusalem and the Holy Land

The Seventh Sunday of Easter is an Annual Day of Prayer for Jerusalem and the Holy Land for the Anglican Church in Canada and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada. We will include prayers for Jerusalem and the Holy Land again this Sunday, May 17. But it is especially critical this year, as violence in the region is escalating and many innocent people are being injured and killed. We pray that God’s justice and peace would reign in and for these Holy lands and people. We invite you to include the following in your prayers:

Holy God, In the midst of escalating violence and continuing political and social conflict, in fear and uncertainty, we thank you for faithful leaders in the Holy Land, especially Bishop Azar of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land, and Archbishop Hosam Naoum of The Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem. Give them strength in speaking out against injustices which eliminate the security and freedom of people. Give us that same courage to open our eyes to what is needed to protect and support those who are most vulnerable, that your justice and peace reign in Jerusalem and the Holy Land and everywhere. In the Spirit of the risen Christ, we pray. Amen.
Day of Pentecost, Sunday May 23 – 10 AM

We once again celebrate this festival of God’s Spirit unable to gather in person but trusting in the Holy Spirit filling us and this world! We will welcome a string quartet to add to the music of this festival day.  And you are invited to wear red and take a picture of yourself or household and send it to us. And we again invite those who are able, to make an audio recording of John 3:16 in different languages. Once recorded, please send them to Nicky at
lutheranchurchofthecross@shaw.ca by Wednesday, May 19. If you have any questions, please contact the church office.
Annual Spring Cleanup - May 17 to May 24

Thank you to everyone who signed up for Spring cleaning tasks and look forward to many more interested volunteers on May 15. There is an abundance of cleaning supplies that can be used, however pails, rubber gloves, brooms, sponges and rags are is short supply. Please bring your own tools as you wish. Those who want to work outside are welcome to bring, clippers, rakes, and pruning tools to help tackle some of the winter over growth. Coffee break will be supplied by Marge, Paula and Gail. All are welcome and we look forward to seeing you after a long time away. COVID Committee rules of face masks, and distancing while inside and out will apply. Contact the Church Office to book your favorite task, date and time of attendance.

A chance to talk together about Antiracism

The Social Justice Committee invites you to join us for a virtual Dessert & Dialogue focusing on racism - both in our community and within religious spaces. We’ll spend time thinking through ways we can continue our work at Lutheran Church of the Cross as an anti-racist congregation. Our host for the evening will be Sabine Lehr, with Florentien Verhage as our guest presenter. It will be an interesting and informative discussion. Let’s work towards being part of the solution!
