Holy Communion and on-line worship

Following the Dessert and Dialogues on Holy Communion and online worship, we have been discussing options and practical details for including Holy Communion in our Sunday worship. This past week we consulted with health care professionals in our congregation. And the Board of Worship will meet the following week to discuss and plan for this and future practises. We want to take great care in preparing for how we share Holy Communion together during this time that is safe for all involved in worship now and in the future. And we will continue to evaluate and adapt practises as needed.

And again, thank you to those who were able to participate in our conversations on May 7 and May 26 about Holy Communion and online worship. The discussions were very helpful in hearing one another and strong support for offering Holy Communion as part of our online worship. We are intending to share in Holy Communion with those physically present for worship, and those joining the livestream have the option to share bread and wine where they are. We recognize this is something very new for most of us. We have researched and discussed various perspectives on the faithfulness of this practise to what we believe as Lutherans about Holy Communion. That Christ is truly present in the sacrament of bread and wine and the community gathered remains our belief together. We recognize this as an opportunity to try this as a trial during this extraordinary time and we will evaluate this practise together. There is a strong desire and sense of listening for the guiding of God’s Spirit among us, especially in our discussing and coming to a decision together. The Council has expressed its support for this trial practise, and we encourage anyone who has further comments, concerns or questions to please be in contact with us as pastors, or with members of the Board of Worship or Council. We pray that God continue to bless us as we seek to worship and live faithfully in this and at all times in the Spirit of the risen Christ Jesus.

Join us for a conversation with Raven Hartley and Ryan Pielle, who are also staff of the Native Friendship Centre, to talk about their personal experiences as Indigenous neighbours, and their work with Indigenous youth and family.
Log on via the church web-site: LutheranVictoria.ca or Facebook page. We are trying something new using a livestream as we do for Sunday worship in order to reach a wider audience. Contact the church office in advance if you have questions about logging in. You can also leave comments in the livestream chat during the event if you’re having trouble.

iPads - iPhones - Seniors and COVID-19
The Seniors’ iPad group began meeting at a Chatterton coffee shop and as the group grew it moved to the Church of the Cross in 2013.  The group first met weekly and then twice a month in the rotunda. During the COVID-19 “lock down” it meets weekly via ZOOM on Thursdays at 10-11 AM.  Participants learn iPad functions, laptop uses, applications (Apps), and share good humour and camaraderie.  The dozen plus participants have become good friends and despite the COVID-19 isolation, look forward to their weekly visits with one another.
Contact Gerry Saleski for more info if you want to join the conversation sometime to see if it’s for you. E-mail:
gerry.saleski@gmail.com
Zoom Perk-Me-Up, Tuesdays at 10:30 – 11:30 AM.
The Perk-Me-Up elder’s group is meeting via Zoom every Tuesday. People join on their tablets, computers and by telephone. If you would like to be a part of the gathering, contact the Church office for the Zoom invitation or telephone number to connect, or if you have any questions or need any assistance.
