Praying Friends Blessing this Sunday
In past years in June we have had a celebration (often with ice cream sundaes!) and blessing of all those who have participated in “Praying Friends” over the past year. We thank the adults who have prayed for a child or youth of the congregation over this term and the families and young people who have included their names. We will include a blessing in our livestream worship this Sunday, June 28, and maybe you can have a dessert or even a sundae in your home! Thank you again to everyone who participated, and to Thiago Hinkel for coordinating Praying Friends this year.
COVID-19 Update
We thank Helene Walker for graciously agreeing to serve as the coordinator for the congregation’s COVID-19 Task Force, as we look at best practices experimenting with a slow re-open in late summer. Joanne, Pr. Lyle, and Pr. Lyndon will be part of the conversation together with others in the congregation sharing their expertise. We move forward with this planning with flexibility, knowing that dates, numbers, and precautions are subject to change in response to public health directives and what makes sense for the congregation. Thank you for everyone’s patience and support during this time, as we discern faithful and prudent ways continuing our journey as the body of Christ in the time of a pandemic.
The Truth and Reconciliation will be sharing resources over the summer on issues of historical and contemporary issues faced by Indigenous peoples in BC and across Canada.  The members of the committee are committed to listening, learning and understanding First Nations concerns and challenges. Here are two resources for your consideration over the summer:

INVASION: Short Documentary About Wetsuweten Crisis (18 min.)

Synopsis: “In this era of “reconciliation”, Indigenous land is still being taken at gunpoint. INVASION is a new film about the Unist’ot’en Camp, Gidimt’en checkpoint and the larger Wet’suwet’en Nation standing up to the Canadian government and corporations who continue colonial violence against Indigenous people.”

Book recommendation:
“The Inconvenient Indian: a Curious Account of Native People in North America,” Thomas King

Synopsis: “Rich with dark and light, pain and magic, The Inconvenient Indian distills the insights gleaned from Thomas King's critical and personal meditation on what it means to be "Indian" in North America, weaving the curiously circular tale of the relationship between non-Natives and Natives in the centuries since the two first encountered each other."

Lutheran Church of the Cross - Annual Spring Cleanup 2020

This year is very different and we simply can not do the clean-up in the normal manner during the pandemic.  Attached is a list of cleaning duties for volunteers to pick from and to complete in a safe manner over a few weeks time. The highlighted items have been taken already. More volunteers are needed.
You may contact the church office at lutheranchurchofthecross@shaw.ca or call 250-477-6222 for the sign up.   Thank you to several people who already have begun helping with the spring cleanup at Church of the Cross. Some have worked in small groups, physically distancing, while others worked alone. Your contributions are all making a big difference to keeping our building and spaces clean and in good shape. If you still want to help see the notice in this edition of Crossroads to sign up. Every little bit helps.
St. Luke's Prescription
Dear Friends at Church of the Cross and at the Shelbourne Community Kitchen,
I hope you are all keeping well during this unusual time.
I wanted to let you know that the Spring 2020 Issue of St. Luke's Prescription is now posted at the Prescription page of St. Luke’s website:
https://www.stlukesvictoria.ca/pages/prescription
Usually this issue would have come out at Easter but as you know this has been a different year! A number of things such as the Prescription were put to one side for several months.
You can save this version of the Prescription to your computer and/or share this link with others. We send the link out to our parishioners and others who are interested - some people prefer to read it online and it also means that it is easy to share.
Please feel free to pass this link along to anyone who might be interested.

Blessings,
Barb Prescott

High School Youth Group (TRY) & Middle School Youth Group Update
Middle School and High School Youth Groups are on summer break and will resume in the fall. We’ll share more info when they’re ready to start up again and whether they’re in a position to begin in person gatherings in the fall and what that would look like. Let Pr. Lyndon or Pr. Lyle know if you know a youth who may benefit from attending one of the youth groups.
Thank you to all who sent emails, cards, phone calls and "Air Hugs" in the passing of my mom.  Thanks again and blessings to all.
