PRIDE Victoria, June 30 – July 7
We join in celebrating PRIDE week in the congregation and the city, recognizing the gifts of diversity and inclusion and the need to stand with all those in the Queer community who continue to be marginalized, including within the church.
Our congregation will join with other churches in the PRIDE parade this Sunday,
July 7. We will meet after worship on Sunday in the rotunda to coordinate where we will meet. If you will not be at worship on Sunday, text or call Pastor Lyle at 250-516-6222 for the information. Happy and blessed PRIDE!

Affordable Intergenerational Housing Update
A very successful open house took place on Wednesday July 3 at Luther Court with over 40 people present from the neighbourhood, the community associations, and from Luther Court and Church of the Cross. An updated plan was presented including landscaping, all one-bedroom units for seniors, studio suites for students, and the addition of a partial fifth floor. The total proposed number of suites is 90 units. Once again there was very positive feedback and good comments and ideas from those present. The next step is the application for rezoning which should be submitted in the next month.
If you have any questions or comments please speak to a member of the joint committee, Ann Baty, Grant Froyland, Carol Tastad, Karen Johnson-Lefsrud or Pastor Lyle.

News from the Social Justice Committee
VINTAGE JEWELRY & CLOTHING REQUEST
The Social Justice Committee is hosting a fundraising event to help us continue our work with refugee sponsorships. An upcoming Vintage Jewelry & Clothing Sale with English Tea is scheduled for Saturday November 2nd, from 10am 2pm in the church Upper Hall. A SAVE the DATE card will follow in mid-July. As a committee, our last fund raiser was held in 2017 and was a successful Wine & Cheese Silent Auction. Due to fantastic congregational support we were able to contribute to the following sponsorships: Diane, Feruz, Merhawi, and the Nuora family.
In order to successfully replenish the Refugee Fund, we request your help and donations. We will be collecting vintage jewelry and clothing from now until October. We are asking for good quality jewelry, both fun and wearable, along with articles of vintage clothing such as woman’s scarves, hats, purses, and men’s ties. If you know of anyone from the wider community who might be willing to donate such articles, be sure to spread the word about this event and the cause.
Please bring the jewelry and clothing to the church. A small marked container for the items will be in the back of the entranceway, and then, stored in a secure place.
If you have questions about the value of the jewelry or any questions at all, please call me at 250.999.2547.
With thanks and appreciation for your ongoing support,
Susan Beiderwieden, The Social Justice Committee

Oakcrest Preschool
Oakcrest Preschool is an independent cooperative that leases space from Church of the Cross. Church Council has been in conversation with the Preschool over a
number of months about rent and information related to the possible housing
development with Luther Court. The most recent conversations have not resulted in what the Council feels is a fair resolution of the rent or a more collaborative working relationship. Council has decided to end the lease with the Preschool effective June, 2020. This was a difficult decision. But it provides a full year for the Preschool to find another facility. Council will be open to various opportunities for the future. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Council Chair, Joanne Solomonson at jtsolomonson@gmail.com or the church office.
