Livestreaming Behind the Scenes

As we begin planning ahead, welcoming people into the church space again, we want to share an update on livestreaming worship. Some people have asked whether we would continue livestreaming worship after we begin gathering in person again. Yes, we are able both to livestream worship and have people gather in person in the sanctuary at the same time. We did this for the first time with Ralferd’s memorial this past week, balancing sound needs both for people in the church space and those listening through the livestream.

Below are photos of the Mevo camera we use for livestreaming worship. Its profile is narrower than the average smart phone, so does not impede site lines for those sitting further back in the sanctuary. The camera also serves as the livestream transmitter, sending audio from the soundboard and video from the camera directly to on-line streaming platforms, including the church web-site. The livestream tech crew use an iPad to control camera angles and on-line text, but the Mevo camera does the work of broadcasting the livestream to the internet. Using the iPad to select camera angles, the tech crew generally doesn’t need to reposition the camera during worship, which reduces disruption for those worshipping in the space, and allows 1-2 people to run all the video and sound from a table set up next to the soundboard.

We thank everyone who has undergone training to use the livestreaming equipment and offering tech support for worship and other events. Brian did the hard work of learning how the equipment works and has since trained Tarynn, Chris, Craig, Braeden, Lyle, Lyndon, and now Scott on using the equipment.

Lutheran Church of the Cross - Annual Spring Cleanup 2020 Continues

This year is very different and we simply can not do the clean-up in the normal manner during the pandemic.  Attached is a list of cleaning duties for volunteers to pick from and to complete in a safe manner over a few weeks time. The highlighted items have been taken already. More volunteers are needed.
You may contact the church office at lutheranchurchofthecross@shaw.ca or call 250-477-6222 for the sign up.   To those who have been able to help to date, Thank you! for your work around and in the church building. The building and grounds are much improved! Some have worked in small groups, physically distancing, while others worked alone. Your contributions are all making a big difference to keeping our building and spaces clean and in good shape. Every little bit helps.
Day Camp this Week
Please hold in your prayers those involved in the Children’s Day Camp, both leaders and children and families, from St. Luke’s, St. George’s, Church of the Cross and the wider community, as they share resources and online connecting over this coming week. God’s blessings and thank you! to everyone involved.
Joint Ecumenical Statement on the Planned Annexation of Occupied Palestinian Territory

Faith based organizations representing people worldwide, issued an ecumenical statement expressing its concern over the planned annexation of occupied Palestinian Territories in the West Bank by the Government of Israel. The Lutheran World Federation (LWF)  joins with ACT Alliance, The World Communion of Reformed Churches, and the World Council of Churches in calling the international community to take immediate action to directly address the unilateral action. The new threat of annexation entrenches and compounds the ongoing situation of occupation, that has far too long undermined the rights and future of Palestinian people. Read the full text of the Statement when you click here.

High School Youth Group (TRY) & Middle School Youth Group Update
Middle School and High School Youth Groups are on summer break and will resume in the fall. We’ll share more info when they’re ready to start up again and whether they’re in a position to begin in person gatherings in the fall and what that would look like. Let Pr. Lyndon or Pr. Lyle know if you know a youth who may benefit from attending one of the youth groups.
