In-Person Worship, Sunday, 10 AM PDT

Church Council continues to work to see that in-person worship is safer for everyone. We will adjust our plans as health orders change.

Being vaccinated against COVID-19 is the best protection for the health of yourself and others. We strongly encourage everyone who is eligible to be fully vaccinated.

We will continue to livestream worship each Sunday.

July 3, 4th Sunday after Pentecost
Everyone planning to come to worship are asked to follow these requirements:
  • If you are not feeling well and experiencing any Covid-19 related symptoms or if you are not vaccinated, please stay home and participate in worship online.
  • You are encouraged but not required to wear a mask when entering the building and throughout worship.
  • Observe social distancing.
  • Sanitize or wash hands as needed.
  • You are welcome to sing and you are encouraged to wear a mask.
  • We will greet one another and share the peace at a distance.
  • Holy Communion will be served with bread and individual glasses of wine that are spaced in the trays. You may commune with bread or wine alone if you wish.
  • It is not required that people register for worship ahead of time or sign in as you arrive.
We will continue to make adjustments as needed and keep you informed of any changes. Your feedback on your experience with in-person worship is valued.  Please let any member of Church Council, Pastors, or the church office know of any questions, concerns or ideas for making in-person worship and Sunday School safer and meaningful for everyone.
Thank you for your Congratulations!

I want to express my deep gratitude to the congregation for the June 19 recognition and celebration of my receiving an honorary degree from UVic and for all your thoughtful and kind congratulations. Particular thanks to Don Storch for hosting the reception and to Dr. Jan Storch and Jeanie Stann for initiating and supporting the nomination along with others at the University and in the community. It is greatly appreciated. And no, please do not call me Doctor, Lyle is just fine!    - Pr. Lyle

With Sadness

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Ritchie Li, spouse to Laura Dykeman Li and father to Declan on Monday, June 27 at home with family gathered with him. Our love and prayers are with Laura and Declan, the Li and Dykeman families, and all who grieve. A gathering to honour and celebrate Ritchie is being planned.

Rest eternal grant him, O God, and let light perpetual shine upon him.
Violence in the Neighbourhood

It was with shock that we learned of the attempted bank robbery and shooting that took place just down the street from the Church last Tuesday, June 28. We pray for the care of all affected, the recovery of the police officers who were shot, and for the perpetrator’s families. And we commit ourselves to Jesus’ way of upholding peace and non-violence in our lives and communities.
Thank you!

Thank you to everyone for the many birthday wishes and cards last Sunday.
A special thank you to the helpers. You made my day.

Marge Adams
Happy Birthday

A happy and blessed 90th Birthday to Helen Bickel whose Birthday was missed (June 24) in the June calendar.
PRIDE parade 2022

Great to have Lutherans and friends marching in the Victoria Pride Parade. 30,000 people came out to experience the parade. While it was a hot day we did our best to keep cool. The absolute joy of people lining the streets along Wharf and Government made it an all around great celebration of queer neighbours. This kind of visibility is key walking with queer friends and being overt as a congregation and denomination about queer inclusion. Many thanks to everyone who participated and cheered us on in-person and online. Thanks to Bill for helping coordinate our entry in the parade. Great to see this momentum as we look ahead to organizing queer-affirming events in the fall.   - Pr. Lyndon
Church Painting Project July 9, 2022

The Trustees are looking for volunteers to help paint in and around the basement entry ways, hallways and stairwell on July 9th. We start at 9:00 AM and should be done by 12 noon. Please bring everything you need to paint with and we will supply the paint. See you on Saturday, July 9th.

CLWR is Appealing for Support to a Hunger Crisis in sub-Saharan Africa

Canadian Lutheran World Relief and its partners in the Humanitarian Coalition are appealing for support as they respond to a hunger crisis that is affecting millions of people in sub-Saharan Africa.

Drought and the effects of climate change have put millions of small-scale farmers and the families they feed at risk of hunger. The COVID-19 pandemic increased the pressure, causing great difficulties for agriculture and supply chains in places like Ethiopia, Somalia and South Sudan.

And now, the Ukraine crisis and its effect upon agricultural production has plunged parts of Africa into a historic hunger crisis. 50 million people are at risk of starvation unless we act quickly and collectively.

Please join CLWR in prayer for those suffering and consider donating, if you are able. The Government of Canada is matching donations from Canadians to provide emergency assistance until July 17. More information and resources for churches are available at
 clwr.org/hungercrisis-response.
Countdown to Convention: Two Weeks to Go!

The first and second installments of this newsletter have already been sent to our subscribers' emails. If you didn't receive our Countdown to Convention and you would like to sign-up to stay informed, an email can be sent to info@elcic.ca which will add you to the list.
