ELCIC National Convention –
Called to Journey Together:
The Ministry of Reconciliation
Our thanks to the people from Church of the Cross who attended the National Convention, July 11- 13, 2019 in Regina, SK and to the congregation for your prayers and support. The Convention re-elected Bishop Susan Johnson for a six year term as National Bishop, adopted The Call to Journey Faithfully With Those Who Are Dying, and Reimagining Our Church: Public Ministry in the ELCIC, and related actions, adopted motions related to climate change, a resolution on respect for members of the queer community, on reconciliation and building relationships with indigenous and multifaith neighbours, and to address racism and oppressive practises in the church; as well as adopting budgets for 2020-2022. The convention included guests: the General Secretary of the Lutheran World Federation, Rev. Martin Junge, who preached at opening worship, and Presiding Bishop of the ELCA, Rev. Elizabeth Eaton, who preached at the closing worship. Worship and prayers began and closed each session and day. Look for more information from the Convention over the coming weeks.

Amazing Journey Summer Day Camp
Many thanks to everyone who made Day Camp a great success with collaboration between St. George Cadboro Bay, St. Luke Cedar Hill, and Church of the Cross. The organizing team did a great job and it shows in these photos the attention to detail for crafts, music, games, snacks, Biblical storytelling, and training volunteers. The kids had a joyful time, learning about becoming followers of Jesus. Church of the Cross organizers include Janice Nelson, Char Holcroft, and Sherry Coughlin. In the photos are also Lynn Jones teaching weaving, Rev. Daniel Fournier leading music, Kim Cummins teaching about Shelbourne Community Kitchen, and Pr. Lyndon Sayers helping lead Biblical storytelling. Thanks to those who joined for cleanup after wrapping up Day Camp.
