Resuming In-person Worship at Church of the Cross

The COVID-19 pandemic has altered our lives in many ways, including the way we worship.  While this has been an anxious time for all of us, we continue to be a strong community of faith. We hope you are enjoying livestreaming of worship on Sunday mornings and prayer on Tuesday mornings.

Church Council has implemented a COVID-19 Leadership Team to develop plans for a safe resumption of in-person worship. While in-person worship will not be exactly the same as before the pandemic, it will offer those who wish to be physically present, the chance to have a meaningful in-person worship experience.

Our first in-person worship will likely occur on Sunday, August 30.  We want to assure you that we will be following the expectations of Dr. Bonnie Henry and our provincial and local health authorities which includes limiting the size of public gatherings to 50 people or less.

A practice in-person worship will be held on Sunday, August 16.  It will be an opportunity for the Leadership Team and others to see how well our preparation and procedures actually work with participants in the sanctuary.

You will be receiving more information through emails, in Crossroads, posted on our website, Instagram and on our FaceBook page.

Tune into Virtual Coffee this Sunday, July 19 where we will begin discussing questions and concerns about resuming in-person worship and share some information about what to expect.

Whether you worship at home by means of livestream or come to the sanctuary, we continue to be one community celebrating the love of Christ and our commitment to each other to be the body of Christ in service to God’s world.
A Heartfelt Thank You from the Freytag Family
Over the last weeks since Ralf's death, and even before he died, we received many calls, cards and emails, expressing your condolences to us, your appreciation of what Ralf had meant in your lives and your sadness at his death. You have also surrounded us with love and concern for our loss, offering help both emotional and practical.
Even though the virtual memorial service was a rather strange and unusual experience for all involved, we had many people, some from as far away as Germany, plus relatives living in America with a closed border, telling us how much this beautiful and meaningful service had moved them. They expressed their gratitude that they were able to take part in it, which they would not have been able to do otherwise because of distance, pandemic restrictions or ill health.
We want to thank everyone who helped make this service such a meaningful one, especially for us as a family. For Pastor Lyle's and Pastor Lyndon's care for us with phone calls and prayers during Ralf's hospitalization, and in the roles they played after Ralf's death in the various parts of the process until we put Ralf's ashes to rest. Thank you for helping us put the service together and for the care and concern for our family's well-being during this difficult time in our lives.
We were again made aware, in a very special way, what a blessing, caring people in a congregation like Lutheran Church of the Cross, as well as relatives and others outside it, are at a time like this in our lives. We thank God for you all.
GIFTS IN MEMORY OF RALFERD FREYTAG
The church has received numerous gifts from members of the congregation, family, and friends of Ralferd over the past weeks. Gifts have been designated in Ralferd’s memory to Mortgage Reduction, the Memorial Fund, Social Justice, Refugee Fund, and Shelbourne Community Kitchen.  Thank you one and all for your generous gifts in loving memory of Ralferd.
On-line Day Camp 2020 Roundup
Thanks again to everyone who helped organize and volunteer for Day Camp 2020 and all the families and kids who participated. The craft boxes were a huge success and meant families had all the tools they needed for making everything from crafts to jell-o. There were songs, movement videos, games, small groups, and more. Below is a link to a couple of the videos, including a slide show and Bible stories that Denise Pawliuk and Pr. Lyndon created for the camp. Great we could offer summer camp in this new way.

KAIROS joins #StatusforAll and Landed Status Now campaign
KAIROS joins the Migrant Rights Network in calling on the federal government to provide Status for All and Landed Status Now. COVID-19 has exposed deep inequities including those faced by foreign migrant workers who are needed in Canada to care for children, the elderly and those with special needs, and to plant, harvest and process our food. Please join KAIROS in supporting this important campaign. Learn more and take action when you click on the following link: https://www.kairoscanada.org/what-we-do/migrant-justice/take-action
Lutheran Church of the Cross - Annual Spring Cleanup 2020 Continues

To those who have been able to help to date, Thank you! for your work around and in the church building. The building and grounds are much improved! Some have worked in small groups, physically distancing, while others worked alone. Your contributions are all making a big difference to keeping our building and spaces clean and in good shape. Every little bit helps. If you are still able to help, you may contact the church office at lutheranchurchofthecross@shaw.ca or call 250-477-6222 for the sign up.
