Provincial and Regional restrictions have been updated as of Dec. 21, 2021:

Here are the latest restrictions.

“If all participants are vaccinated as determined by the worship service leader, there are no capacity restrictions on worship services and choirs.
If participants are not all vaccinated, worship services and choirs are limited to 50% seated capacity.”

Masks are required but can be temporarily removed for ceremonial eating and drinking, and by officiants, readers or for singing a solo where physical distancing is observed.

In-Person Worship, Sunday, 10 AM PST

Church Council and others continue to work to see that in-person worship is safer for everyone. Our current practises for in-person worship meet all present requirements. Changes in the pandemic continue to raise concerns for health and safety, and we will adjust our plans as health orders change.

Being vaccinated against COVID-19 is the best protection for the health of yourself and others. We strongly encourage everyone who is eligible to receive both doses of the vaccine.

We will continue to livestream worship each Sunday.

February 6, Fifth Sunday After Epiphany
Everyone planning to come to worship are asked to follow these requirements:
  • If you are not feeling well and experiencing any Covid-19 related symptoms or if you are not vaccinated, please stay home and participate in worship online.
  • Wear a mask when entering the building and throughout worship and Sunday School.  (This is required of everyone age 12 and older. Children under 12 are encouraged to wear a mask.)
  • Observe social distancing.
  • Sanitize or wash hands as needed.
  • You are welcome to sing, but masks must be worn.
  • We will greet one another and share the peace at a distance.
  • Holy Communion will be served with bread and individual glasses of wine that are spaced in the trays. You may commune with bread or wine alone if you wish.
  • You are invited to greet and talk with others after worship with masks on.
  • It is not required that people register for worship ahead of time or sign in as you arrive.

We will continue to make adjustments as needed and keep you informed of any changes. Your feedback on your experience with in-person worship is valued.  Please let any member of Church Council, the Covid Leadership Team, Pastors, or the church office know of any questions, concerns or ideas for making in-person worship and Sunday School safer and meaningful for everyone.

Thank You Notes From Women at the Victoria Transition House
In appreciation of Christmas gifts organized by Women in Faith

Dear Neighbours,

Thank you so much for your thoughtfulness and generosity at Christmas.

To the Women in Faith Group,

Very special thank you to all of the people who work so hard to help make Christmas special for everyone. Thanks to the wonderful gift cards and donations I received I was able to provide my daughter a wonderful meal, gifts, and a most happy and memorable Christmas. And for myself I think you made me believe in Santa again.

From my heart to all of yours, many blessings and happy holidays.

Lutheran Church of the Cross,

I got your love and help during my most difficult time. Thank you very much here. At the same time, I will also pass on the love. Let the world full of love.

Merry Christmas “Women in Faith Group, Lutheran Church of the Cross”

All the best of happiness and good health in the new year!

I can’t begin to say how grateful I am for all these wonderful gifts. I have no friends, family in BC. So getting this gift bag of beautiful gifts is absolutely amazing, you made my Christmas enjoyable. Thank you!

Lutheran Church of the Cross,

I have no words to thank your kindness.

Women in Faith Group, Lutheran Church of the Cross

Thank you for your kindness and thoughtfulness. It will never be forgotten.

Lutheran Church of the Cross,

I’m struggling to come up with the right words to somehow accurately convey my thanks and enormous appreciation for the Christmas gifts. This was the most difficult Christmas and holiday season, so your kindness and thoughtfulness made such an overwhelming difference. I was extremely touched. It won’t ever be forgotten.

From my heart thank you very much.

Lutheran Church of the Cross,

Your ladies…make my heart sing. Thank you for gracing my life with your gifts.

Karren Stinson Bursary

The Karren Stinson Bursary committee is pleased to announce that Katherine Murray and Nole Kjemhus have each been awarded a bursary in the amount of five hundred dollars.  Mr. Kjemhus is currently enrolled at Grande Prairie Regional College in a Bachelor of Education Secondary program.  He plans to transfer to the University of Alberta next school year to finish his degree program.  His goal is to become a high school teacher with a major in mathematics and a minor in physical education.  He would like to coach basketball  and use the sport to help students in need.  Currently studying at the Vancouver School of Theology, Ms Murray is involved in the Anglican church in many capacities.  She is working toward being ordained as a Deaconess in the Anglican church.  Her hometown is Abbotsford, B.C.  We wish them well and know that God will provide for their needs as they work toward their chosen goals.

Peace.

Eastern Synod Black History Month

The Eastern Synod of the ELCIC has put forward this challenge to all its members for the 2022 Black History Month.  Perhaps we, the members of the BC Synod, could join them on this journey.  Here is the call they have issued.

Dear friends,

We challenge all members of the Eastern Synod to engage with Black History Month. Every week, during the month of February, you will receive resources included with your weekly Synod Newsletter, that will help you. However, you might choose to read a book by a Black author, watch a documentary or video, listen to a podcast, etc.... then, discuss it with someone - tell your pastor what you learned! Ask your pastor what they are doing this month to engage with Black History Month!

Send an email to our Racial Justice Advisory Committee about your thoughts or whatever comments you may have. Whatever you do, just do something!

We would love to hear from you!

Visit the Eastern Synod’s Black History Month webpage.

Here is a video message from Eastern Synod Bishop Michael Pryse:

BC Synod Doctrine of Discovery Lenten Series

As part of your Lenten Spiritual Practice join us on Zoom for 6 weeks starting March 3rd as we take an in depth look at the Doctrine of Discovery, a document that has shaped western attitudes towards Indigenous people for the past five centuries.

6 Thursdays: March 3, 10, 17, 24, 31, April 7
7:00 to 7:20 PM PST Evening Prayer
7:30 to 8:30 PM PST Video Discussion
All sessions over Zoom

Organized by the Journey Towards Reconciliation Group (on which Pr. Lyndon serves) each evening will start with a 20 minute Lenten Evening Prayer led by different congregations in the BC Synod (Church of the Cross will be leading one of the Evening Prayer sessions). Then we take a short break before we dive into a one hour discussion with video on the Doctrine of Discovery, a documentary produced by the Anglican Church of Canada.

Come to one or all of them. This is a great chance to start or continue your journey of reconciliation with your Indigenous siblings both as individuals and as a congregation. We invite people to sign up on Eventbrite so we can get an idea of how many people are coming. Below you will find the Eventbrite Link and links to two videos that you can use to promote this event in your congregation.

Lutheran, Anglican Leaders Call Both Churches to Observe World Interfaith Harmony Week

Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada (ELCIC) National Bishop Susan Johnson and Anglican Church of Canada (ACC) Archbishop and Primate Linda Nicholls shared a joint message encouraging members of both churches to observe the annual United Nations World Interfaith Harmony Week, February 1-7 in ways that are meaningful to their local context. Both churches are committed to pursuing friendship, peace, and common cause with their neighbours of diverse spiritual and religious backgrounds. Read the full letter when you click here.

The
World Interfaith Harmony Week provides a platform - one week in a year - when all interfaith groups and other groups of goodwill can show the world what a powerful movement they are. It is hoped that this initiative will provide a focal point from which people of goodwill can recognize that the common values they hold far outweigh the differences they have, and provide a strong dosage of peace and harmony to their communities. For more information, please click here.

Interfaith "AnOther" Story Sharing Project
