Men’s Advent Breakfast
December 10, 9:30 am at Upper Hall, Church of the Cross

Inviting men to breakfast on Saturday, December 10 at 9:30 am in the Upper Hall at Church of the Cross. This is an opportunity for us to get better acquainted and to learn more about Lutheran worship from Pastor Lyle.

“Lutheran Christians are people of Word and Sacrament.  Our liturgical worship expresses what we believe, including many direct quotes from the Bible. Looking at our worship and what we say and do, reminds us of who we are and how we are called to live in the Spirit of God’s grace through faith in Christ Jesus.”
Lunch Helpers Needed

You are invited to be part of the LCC team that will be serving lunch at the Victoria Native Friendship Centre on Friday, December 9 at 11:30 am.  This is one way of giving back to the Indigenous community on the South Island.
Join members of our Truth and Reconciliation Committee and learn more about the Victoria Native Friendship Centre.  We need to know how many helpers we will have so contact Craig at
craigrknight@gmail.com
Christmas Tree Decorating and Pizza Supper
Thursday, December 15, 5 PM

Young families, choir members, and everyone is invited to join in decorating the Christmas tree at the church followed by a pizza supper on Thursday, December 15 beginning at 5 PM. Decorating will finish in time for choir rehearsal. And for those who can stay, Advent Evening Prayer will follow at 7 PM.
Gingerbread House Decorating – Saturday, December 17th, 4:00 pm, Upper Hall, Church of the Cross

After two years of decorating at home we are finally meeting in person to decorate individual gingerbread houses. We will begin at 4:00 PM in the Upper Hall. A pizza dinner will be provided at 5:30 PM.

The kits include the prefabricated gingerbread house, gingerbread people, gingerbread trees, icing, and some decorations. We will provide a sturdy base to put your house on. However, if you would like to add additional items to your gingerbread house you are welcome to bring extra decorations. If possible, we would like you to leave your house at the church overnight so that it will dry and so that others can see them on Sunday morning.

If you are planning to attend, please contact Janice (
jbnel13@gmail.com) or the church office. Please advise of any dietary issues.
Harrison Place Gift Bags
On Monday, December 5, 21 gift bags were assembled for the residents of Harrison Place. Harrison Place is a housing project for older women operated by Victoria Women's Transition House. Each bag contained a pair of pajamas, some food items, toiletries, gloves, candies, knitted dishcloths and scrubbies as well as a gift card for Fairways. Thanks to everyone who helped assemble the bags and a special thank you to all the generous businesses that donated items for them. They have been dropped off at the Victoria Women's Transition House and will be distributed to those at Harrison Place.

Outdoor worship included Advent readings from scripture, poetry, and prayers. There were also 100+ lanterns with tea lights lighting the way. Thanks to Leslie and Rebecca, Vancouver School of Theology interns, for organizing and leading as of their campus ministry internship. Pr. Lyndon serves as a mentor for Rebecca as part of their internship process. Boston and Courtney also participated as readers. We enjoyed a meal of soup together following worship.
