Organ Recital: Wednesday, August 23, at 7 pm
In 1970 Victoria organ builder Hugo Spilker built the pipe organ at Broad View United.
Now, after 50 years of service to the congregation, the pipe organ is destined for a new home.
As a swan song, an organ recital planned for Wednesday, August 25th, at 7 pm.
The programme includes JS Bach’s Prelude & Fugue in G Major ( BWV 541 ), Ralph Vaughan Williams’
beautiful prelude on Rhosemedre, and compositions by the famous Vancouver composer Denis Bédard.
PJ Janson will be joined by oboist Anna Betuzzi to perform some rarely-heard pieces for organ and oboe by
JL Krebs, as well as the unpublished Meditation on Hymn Tune 'Michael' by the Edinburgh composer Steve Richer.

Inviting ELCIC Members to Give Their Feedback on Communion Practices During the Pandemic
The Faith, Order, and Doctrine (FOD) Committee of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada (ELCIC) has recently been given the following task by the National Church Council (NCC): That the Faith, Order, and Doctrine Committee examine the theology and practice of virtual celebration of the sacrament of Holy Communion with recommendations for practices to be shared, through an interim or final report, with NCC by March 2022.
The FOD Committee is aware that over the past year, worshipping communities in the ELCIC have had various practices when it comes to communion. Some have offered online communion while others have fasted from the sacrament. We would very much like to hear from members both rostered and lay across the church, about what their experience has been. Questions include: What insights do you have from the past year of either participating in the sacrament or abstaining from it? What are your thoughts and reflections on this?
Please send your one-page description to Rev. Dr. Ali Tote, Assistant to the National Bishop for Faith, Order, and Doctrine at atote@elcic.ca. Submissions must be received by August 20, 2021. Your input would be a great help to the committee in its work.
Note: In addition, rostered members will receive another survey by email soon, when it becomes available.
