Video Alert
On July 8th, a video series called Acts of Creation was posted to our Lutheran Church of the Cross YouTube page, with the link found here in Crossroads.
The July 29th video showcases Dave Lefsrud. You’ll have to tune to see and hear what he has to say but they only thing I can tell you is that I’m not in this video and that it was recorded at church.
By the way, a shout out to Pastor Lyndon who does all the technology for this series, from setup, recording, and downloading the file for you to view. Thanks Lyndon and all who agreed to be recorded.
What do you do? Please send your greening news, ideas, tips, or advice to me: susandb@telus.net
In Peace,
Susan Beiderwieden

Want To Help?
Ever wonder what each of us can do to lessen our impact on the environment? Ever wonder how effective our individual efforts are?
I know I do, as do the members of the Greening Committee and so many of you. Our collective actions and search for ways to live kindly on Gods beautiful creation can help. As we share ideas and suggestions, we hope to pass along ways we can work together.
One such opportunity exists in how we shop, and the products we use. Since the early 1990s’, the Victoria Soap Exchange has been offering a comprehensive collection of green products that are 100% Canadian biodegradable cleaning products. By offering bulk and refills using your own containers, we can reduce plastic packaging problems.
Through their Clean Up Club, the Greening Committee benefits when each of us purchases our cleaning or personal products at the Soap Exchange. Here’s how it works.
When you go, tell them you are from LCC and they will record your total purchase on a page for Lutheran Church of the Cross, Greening Committee. When the page fills up, the Soap Exchange provides a check to the Greening Committee for 10% of all receipts.
Next time you wonder, what can I do, join us as part of the Clean Up Club.

Inviting ELCIC Members to Give Their Feedback on Communion Practices During the Pandemic
The Faith, Order, and Doctrine (FOD) Committee of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada (ELCIC) has recently been given the following task by the National Church Council (NCC): That the Faith, Order, and Doctrine Committee examine the theology and practice of virtual celebration of the sacrament of Holy Communion with recommendations for practices to be shared, through an interim or final report, with NCC by March 2022.
The FOD Committee is aware that over the past year, worshipping communities in the ELCIC have had various practices when it comes to communion. Some have offered online communion while others have fasted from the sacrament. We would very much like to hear from members both rostered and lay across the church, about what their experience has been. Questions include: What insights do you have from the past year of either participating in the sacrament or abstaining from it? What are your thoughts and reflections on this?
Please send your one-page description to Rev. Dr. Ali Tote, Assistant to the National Bishop for Faith, Order, and Doctrine at atote@elcic.ca. Submissions must be received by August 20, 2021. Your input would be a great help to the committee in its work.
Note: In addition, rostered members will receive another survey by email soon, when it becomes available.

Emancipation Day Ecumenical Celebration
August 1 is Emancipation Day in Canada. People of all faith backgrounds are encouraged to join in a virtual ecumenical celebration of Emancipation Day. The service will be available for viewing starting July 27. For the Emancipation Day ecumenical worship, video, prayers, hymns, and background information, please click here.
Emancipation Day marks the anniversary of the Slavery Abolition Act which came into effect August 1, 1834, freeing approximately 800,000 enslaved people in British colonies including Canada. For over 180 years, Black communities across Canada have celebrated Emancipation Day every August 1st with church services, parades, outdoor festivities, protests, speeches, entertainment, and more, seeing an opportunity for celebration and a time for reflection on the struggle for freedom and justice, past and present. This year marks the first official recognition of Emancipation Day by the Government of Canada, following a unanimous vote in the House of Commons in March 2021.
