Provincial and Regional restrictions have been updated as of March 10, 2022.
Here are the latest restrictions.
At Church of the Cross masks are recommended but not required. Choir members have been asked to wear masks and those singing are encouraged to as well.
In-Person Worship, Sunday, 10 AM PDT
Church Council continues to work to see that in-person worship is safer for everyone. We will adjust our plans as health orders change.
Being vaccinated against COVID-19 is the best protection for the health of yourself and others. We strongly encourage everyone who is eligible to be fully vaccinated.
We will continue to livestream worship each Sunday.
April 24, Second Sunday of Easter
Everyone planning to come to worship are asked to follow these requirements:
- If you are not feeling well and experiencing any Covid-19 related symptoms or if you are not vaccinated, please stay home and participate in worship online.
- You are encouraged but not required to wear a mask when entering the building and throughout worship.
- Observe social distancing.
- Sanitize or wash hands as needed.
- You are welcome to sing and you are encouraged to wear a mask.
- We will greet one another and share the peace at a distance.
- Holy Communion will be served with bread and individual glasses of wine that are spaced in the trays. You may commune with bread or wine alone if you wish.
- It is not required that people register for worship ahead of time or sign in as you arrive.
We will continue to make adjustments as needed and keep you informed of any changes. Your feedback on your experience with in-person worship is valued. Please let any member of Church Council, Pastors, or the church office know of any questions, concerns or ideas for making in-person worship and Sunday School safer and meaningful for everyone.

Recognition of the 60th Anniversary of the Ordination of Rev. Hans Epp
60th Anniversary of Hans Epp’s Ordination “Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord? I have heard you calling in the night. I will go, Lord, if you lead me. I will hold your people in my heart.”
Hans Epp was ordained into the American Lutheran Church on June 2, 1962 at Christ Lutheran Church in Kelowna, B.C. Pastor Krempin, the pastor of Christ Lutheran Church, together with his friend Pastor R. Yauk officiated at this memorable event.
Hans served congregations in: Togo, Runnymede, Saskatchewan; Moosehorn, Ashern, Hilbre, Manitoba; Morden, Carmen, Manitoba; Medicine Hat, Alberta; Kelowna, British Columbia; Barrhead, Alberta; and Victoria, British Columbia.
He loved ministry very much and was always challenging his congratulations to keep up with change. St. Peter’s in Medicine Hat was his largest congregation with about 1500 members. While there his services were often broadcast over radio. He was instrumental in building senior housing in Medicine Hat and Kelowna.
His love for preaching and visiting members and non-members occupied a great deal of his time. Sharing the highs and lows (baptisms, weddings and funerals) of people was very rewarding . He loved to invite people to our home and still does.
Hans was always amazed at how God used him in his ministry.

Standing With Ukrainian Catholic Neighbours
Words that were shared with Multifaith Centre leaders:
Our thoughts are with Father Yuriy Vyshnevskyy and his family, after surviving a house fire early Wednesday morning. Father Yuriy is the priest of the Ukrainian Catholic Church of St. Nicholas on Caledonia Avenue in Victoria, and he recently offered a mass on-campus at the Multifaith Centre for the UVic community.
To help support Father Yuriy, please consider donating to the GoFundMe page that has been created by a board member of the Ukrainian Cultural Centre in Victoria.
The church and parsonage are located near Royal Athletic Park in the North Park neighbourhood of Victoria.
Read about the story here.

Anti-racism in University Sport with Braeden McKenzie
Tuesday, MAY 10, 7 PM PDT over Zoom
The Social Justice Committee invests you to a presentation and Q&A over Zoom with Braeden McKenzie, the next speaker in the 2021/22 series on anti-racism.
Zoom link will be sent out to congregation e-mail list ahead of the event.
Braeden is a PhD candidate, and Course Instructor working in the Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education at the University of Toronto. Braeden served as a Senior Research Assistant and co-writer for a report on Indigeneity, Diaspora, Equity and Anti-racism in Sport (IDEAS) at the Research Lab at the University of Toronto.
Because not everyone understands what racism is, or how white privilege operates, many athletes have had to suffer in silence. The IDEAS project sought to learn more about the experiences of Black, Biracial, and Indigenous student-athletes coaches, and sport administrators.
Some of the focus questions for this research project were:
- How is racism and anti-racism perceived and experienced in the Black, Biracial, and Indigenous sport communities on university campuses?
- What role do post-secondary educational institutions play in racism and anti-racism experiences in sport?
- How can anti-racism be improved in the sport community at the post-secondary educational institutional level?
Listen to a one minute video about this report.
