Shelbourne Community Kitchen

Why donate to the Shelbourne Community Kitchen's Urgent Food Support Fund?

Because we know that having reliable access to fresh healthy food and people you can call for support can make a world of difference...especially right now. In the past three weeks alone, our Pantry program received and filled over 250 requests for food support and we are registering new members every day. And while our team is now a fraction of its original size, we dedicate time every week to call the members who we know are especially vulnerable right now and don't have computers at home to check in. We offer service updates and tell them "Yes! We are still open and here to help in any way we can."

The Shelbourne Community Kitchen might be a small organization, but we have a great big heart. If you are able to do so - please make a donation to the Urgent Food Support Fund today so that we can meeting the increasing demand, and share this post with your family, friends and neighbours!

Programming Survey for Church of the Cross

Let us know the kinds of programming you would like to see the church organizing especially during this time of online gathering, while we are unable to meet in person. We may be able to offer more than one kind of on-line gathering. This is to get a sense of the kinds of things people would find helpful during this time.

Please visit Survey Monkey link here to complete the survey.

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/C9Z9W3D

We will be collecting responses to the survey until Wednesday April 22, 2020, 12 PM PDT.
Online Giving Update

As people are spending more time on-line these days and we move worship on-line, Church of the Cross has begun offering on-line giving.

We have partnered with Tithely, the company that hosts our website, and offers on-line giving services for churches.

To check this out simply visit the church web-site: LutheranVictoria.ca and click on the “Giving” menu tab. Here we are listing different ways you can give to the congregation, including a link to on-line giving through Tithely. You will have the option either to make a one-time donation or click “Sign Up” to create an account with Tithely to track your on-line giving. If you choose to sign up you will be instructed to choose a four digit PIN number for increased security each time you log in.

Is on-line giving right for you? We encourage people to give in ways they find comfortable. Traditional ways of giving whether through the envelope system, e-transfer, and direct deposit have the added benefit of not having service fees. On-line giving with Tithely includes a service fee of 2.9% and $0.30 per transaction for VISA and MasterCard, 3.5% and $0.30 per transaction for AMEX. Tithely gives you the option to offset the service fee charge. As more people expect and are comfortable with on-line giving, we hope to serve folks who prefer this option, who we might otherwise miss. This encourages support from a wider on-line community, including people who join us for on-line worship beyond Victoria.

If you have questions about on-giving please speak with Barry Walker, financial secretary.
Call Barry at: 250-381-1698  or send him an e-mail:

Covid-19 Pandemic update

A few updates
  • Worship online continues – see top of this issue of Crossroad for Holy Week and Easter worship details
  • Follow-up Phone calls have been made or attempted to everyone connected to the congregation. Emails have been sent in instances where we don’t have phone numbers.
  • Assistance is available – for groceries, medications, conversation, and other help as needed; a group of people are ready to assist. Please contact the Church office if we can be of help in any way.
  • Zoom is available – This application for online meetings is available through the Church office for any Boards, Committees or groups in the congregation to meet during this time. It is simple to use, and Nicky in the office is able to set-up the meetings for those who wish to use it and assist with any questions.
  • Thank you! – to everyone who has assisted with follow-up phone calls, emails, groceries, medications and other needs; with live-streaming worship and Sunday School, and in the office, with messages of support and feedback, dropping off offerings, and in many other ways. Thank you to everyone for your ongoing support of the congregation and our communities.
  • Please pray – for the everyone in the congregation during this time, for our elders particularly and others who are vulnerable, for those working in health care on the front lines of support, for many who are much more affected by this pandemic in our neighbourhoods and around the world, and for leaders in our nation and world for wisdom and compassion in their words and actions.

Luther Court – is closed to all visitors except to immediate family of residents who are under palliative care. The staff are working very hard to protect and care for residents during this pandemic. Please pray for the people of Luther Court and all residents and staff of care facilities, for their safety and health.
News from Our Place:  We are happy to announce that as of April 9th, we are again able to offer showers at 919 Pandora, which means that donations of socks and underwear are once again being accepted. And with the increasingly warm weather people need to keep hydrated through the day, not just at meal times. Donations of bottled water, along with tents, tarps and sleeping bags, are also gratefully accepted. Our site for ALL DONATIONS is 94 Talcott Road (New Roads Therapeutic Recovery Community in View Royal), Monday to Friday 9am-4pm. Online donations can still be made at https://www.ourplacesociety.com/donate or call our donor hotline at 250-940-5060 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thank you so much for your compassion and concern.
