Smudging April 30 & June 4, 2023

Boston will be offering smudging again this Saturday, April 30 and also on Holy Trinity Sunday, June 4. This is an optional cleansing rite in which you are welcome to participate at the church entrance.

What is smudging?
Giving thanks to Founding Members of the Karren Stinson Bursary Committee – This Sunday, April 30 - 10 AM worship

The bursary was established in 1990 in memory of Parish Worker and member of Church of the Cross, Karren Stinson. It began as an idea of Sonja Hendrickson, but was established through the leadership of founding members, Cathy Krock, Gisela Braniff and Iris Schoffer. The first bursary, given to support students studying post-secondary education toward vocations of service, was given in 1991, and every year since. Cathy, Iris and Gisela have served on the committee from its beginning up to now, 33 years! We celebrate and given thanks to them for their years of dedicated service to honour Karren and support students, this congregation, the wider church and community. Cathy, Gisela, and Iris will be recognized and thanked in worship this Sunday, April 30 and at the time of hospitality following. We give thanks and celebrate them for their faithful service.

Annual Spring Cleanup - Saturday, May 6 from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM

The Board of Trustees are hosting the annual Spring Clean Up at Lutheran Church of the Cross. A sign up sheet with
a list of tasks available here. And a paper copy has been posted on the board in the hallway on the way to the Upper Hall. We plan to get together on Saturday, May 6, 9:00 am until 12 noon. If that doesn’t work for you, then you are invited to come during previous the week and work on a project of your choice - if you complete it or not write down what’s been done. We thank you for your efforts.

We would like to complete the most visible aspects before Mothers Day on May 14.
You can contact Nicky at the Church Office to schedule your favourite task, whether on May 6 or anytime the building is open. The church office is open Monday through Thursday 9 AM to 3 PM or by appointment if you need access outside these hours.

There are a wide range of interior and exterior tasks to suit your ability. Trustees greatly appreciate your participation and hope to be on site encouraging all participate.

Advance Care Planning Workshop
May 11 & 18, 10 AM, Church of the Cross

Led by Marta Lefsrud

We plan for birthdays, weddings, and even dinner - so why don't we plan our health care?
What health care decisions are made when you are no longer capable of making them yourself? Who acts as your Representative or Substitute Decision Maker? What are your values, wishes and beliefs?

These are all questions that get addressed during your advance care planning process. Although Advance Care Planning is often thought of as planning for the end of life, it is really about planning for life, up to and including death.

It is a process of thinking about what is important to you. What are your beliefs, values and wishes for your care?

Advance care planning is also about sharing those wishes, especially with your substitute decision-maker (the person who will speak for you if you can’t speak for yourself) so that your family and friends know how you would like to be cared for in the future.

But lots of resources have too much medical, and legal jargon it's hard to know where to start. This two-part workshop helps you tackle planning with confidence. You will finish having the tools and skills to start the conversation with your friends, loved ones, and health care providers.

Each session is approximately an hour and a half, and will help participants get started working on their own plans, and having conversations with their loved ones”

This workshop is being hosted by the Board of Education and will be led by Marta Lefsrud, Community Education and Projects Lead with Victoria Hospice.

If you want to attend this workshop, there is a sign-up sheet outside the church office, or you may contact the church office by email or phone to sign-up. Office: 250-477-6222
